Dir: - Antonio Carlos Muricy 70 minutes. Brazil.
The film tells the story of the most important Capoeira master in the 20th century, known as "The Capoeira Angola Guardian", and also known as "The Capoeira Poet" - Vicente Ferreira Pastinha, the legendary Master Pastinha.
In the late thirties he was called by the old Capoeira Angola Masters in Salvador, Bahia, and received a mission- to protect the traditional capoeira Angola from the changes that were being introduced by Master Bimba and his Capoeira Regional "in order to improve Capoeira as a fight". Thanks to Pastinha and his followers this African Brazilian art-dance-fight is alive and is "the novelty" in today's capoeira - the re-encounter with it's roots and origins, peaceful, respectful Capoeira.
We have invited the capoeira group Aquinderreis Capoeira Angola Norway to do an open roda and a demonstration of Capoeira Angola! Come and experience this magnificent art form!
